A teleprompter is a display device mounted directly in front of or adjacent to a camera lens that projects a scrolling script in large, readable text — enabling news anchors, presenters, and executives to read prepared remarks while appearing to maintain natural eye contact with the viewing audience. Modern teleprompters use beamsplitter glass so the camera sees through the reflection while the presenter sees only the text.

As the minister shifts gaze subtly between the two, the audience perceives engagement and direct address — not reading.
